Sports Boulevard Tenders Global Sports Tower

The Saudi capital is gearing up for one of its most ambitious builds yet, as the Sports Boulevard Foundation formally tenders the Global Sports Tower, a world-class sports facility that will stand as a landmark within the kingdom’s Sports Boulevard megaproject. For construction companies and industry professionals, this project presents not only a prestigious contract opportunity but also a chance to showcase technical expertise on an international stage.

The Global Sports Tower, approved by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in 2024, is designed to rise 130 meters with a total built-up area of 84,000 m². It will house more than 30 sports facilities, including advanced climbing, running, and training spaces. Signature elements include:

  • World’s tallest indoor climbing wall (98 m).

  • Digitized 250-meter running track at roof level.

  • Multipurpose facilities adaptable to multiple disciplines.

These features demand innovative design integration, specialized materials, and cutting-edge construction techniques. Contractors bidding for this tender will need to demonstrate global best practice in engineering design, structural solutions, safety management, and digital integration.

The tender, open until 30 September 2025, creates opportunities for:

  • Main Contractors: Large-scale project management, delivery of high-rise sports facilities, and compliance with Vision 2030 sustainability targets.

  • Specialist Subcontractors: Advanced façade engineering, sports flooring, mechanical/electrical systems, and vertical transport.

  • Consultants: Project management, cost consultancy, BIM integration, and sustainability certification.

Given the complexity of the climbing wall and rooftop track, contractors with niche expertise in sports engineering and high-rise safety systems will be particularly well positioned.

The tower will sit in the Athletics District of the Sports Boulevard one of Riyadh’s flagship Vision 2030 urban regeneration projects. The boulevard stretches over 135 km, linking Wadi Hanifah to Wadi Al Sulai, and includes 50 sports facilities, 3 million m² of mixed-use developments, and 4.4 million m² of landscaped areas.

For construction workers, engineers, and managers, this project will involve multidisciplinary collaboration across civil works, green infrastructure, and mega-scale project logistics. The use of Salmani architecture principles will also require cultural sensitivity and architectural precision in execution.

Beyond the direct contract, the Global Sports Tower is expected to create thousands of jobs across the value chain from skilled trades and equipment operators to engineers, architects, and project managers. It will serve as a training ground for Saudi and international professionals to apply digital construction technologies, advanced safety protocols, and sustainable building practices.

For the construction industry, the Global Sports Tower is a high-rise flagship project that combines technical complexity, architectural prominence, and social impact. Winning contractors and their teams will not only contribute to Riyadh’s growing skyline but also position themselves as key players in Saudi Arabia’s transformation under Vision 2030.
